Membership Benefits

  • We hold monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of every month starting at 7:30 PM, often with an educational Brew Guru session starting at 7:00 PM. There is no requirement that you bring homebrew to a meeting, but if you do, you will find plenty of folks willing to taste it and offer their feedback.
  • We provide Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) classes on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM. The BJCP is an international organization whose purpose is to train people to become judges for homebrew competitions. UNYHA supports this goal by holding monthly beer tasting sessions, designed to help club members become better brewers and judges. Sessions consist of guided tastings of commercial beers of a representative style as well as informal critiques and formal judging of homebrewed beers.
  • The club holds an annual homebrew competition in the spring of each year. The competition is open to the public. Judges are recruited from among the membership as well as from clubs in surrounding areas. The competition often receives over 300 entries. Prizes are awarded for the three best beers/meads/ciders in each style category, and an awards banquet follows the competition.
  • We hold annual events such as an Oktoberfest picnic, a food and beer pairing dinner, a camping festival, and several educational events such as All-Grain Brewing School.
  • Discounts on supplies at local homebrewing shops, access to bulk buys of ingredients, opportunities to volunteer at local beer festivals, and many other formal and informal club events.
