There is no requirement that you bring homebrew to a meeting, but if you do, you will find plenty of folks willing to taste it and offer their feedback.

BJCP Training Sessions

We hold BJCP Tasting Sessions on the first Wednesday of the month, starting at 7:00 PM. These meetings are currently held at:

The BJCP is an international organization whose purpose is to train people to become judges for homebrew competitions. UNYHA supports this goal by holding monthly beer tasting sessions, designed to help club members become better brewers and judges.

Training Sessions consist of guided tastings of about a dozen good commercial examples within a particular style category as well as informal critiques and formal judging of homebrewed beers.

All club members are welcome to attend, even if you're not a judge and have no intention of taking the BJCP exam.

The cost of these sessions is subsidized by the club, but in some cases we might need to ask for a bit of money (no more than $10) to cover costs. In any case, you get your money's worth in good beer, sometimes including beers that you can't get in New York.

Pub of the Month

Pub of the Month sessions are held on the third Wednesday of the month at pubs selected by our Pub of the Month Czars. It is an informal gathering of club members which starts around 5:30 PM and runs to about 7:30 PM. PotM selections are announced via the club mailing list and in the newsletter about a month in advance.

Our History

The Upstate New York Homebrewers Association (UNYHA) is dedicated to sharing and broadening the appreciation of and knowledge about the brewer's art within its membership and the public at large, through regular meetings and special events, in accordance with its philosophy of informed, mature and responsible enjoyment of homebrewed and commercially brewed beer.

UNYHA has been around since 1979. While none of the original club members remain, some of our members have been around almost since the beginning, and new members join every year. Membership has often exceeded 100 people and is currently around 150, making us one of the larger homebrew clubs in the country. We are a diverse group; our numbers include many award-winning brewers, ciderers and mead makers, and we have a number of BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program) judges in our ranks.
