Winning participants who attended the Post-Competition Awards Banquet
received their ribbons on March 8 and any winning Non-UNYHA Members
also selected their own prizes that evening.

The first batch of Judge Score Sheets was delivered the Post Office
on Wednesday, March 12.

UNYHA Members and local participants attending our March Membership
Meeting on Wednesday, March 12 received their Judge Score Sheets and
Ribbons (when applicable) that evening, including our Best Of Show
Winner, John Sullivan.

ALL other participants’ packages were delivered to the Post Office
on Friday morning, March 14.

If you do not receive your package by Friday, March 28, PLEASE contact
the Awards Committee
and we work with the US Post Office to put a trace on the package.

All winning UNYHA members and those Non-Members who have contacted
us to arrange such, will select their own awards at the April 9 Membership
meeting, as described in the section titled “Prize Process for UNYHA
Members”, below.

Mailing
of results:

Shortly after the competition, the judge sheets,
awards and prizes will be mailed to out-of-town competitors and local
competitors who are not currently members of UNYHA.

UNYHA members will be able to pick up their results
at the March Membership meeting.

Due to the short window between the Competition
and the March membership meeting, local participants will not be able
to obtain their results earlier. UNYHA members not attending the March
meeting may make arrangements to pick up their results or have them
mailed. Otherwise, they will be able to obtain them at the April 9
membership meeting. Contact the Awards Coordinator for mailing or
to arrange a special pick-up. Early pick-up will apply to score sheets
ONLY; no prizes will be distributed prior to the April 9 meeting.
Awards and prizes not received at the April meeting will be available
afterwards. If you placed in any category, your presence at the April
meeting is STRONGLY recommended.

Prizes:

Once
again, our sponsors have come through to help make this year’s
event even more fantastic, allowing us to distribute lots of great
beer, cider and mead-related items to our competitors. We’re
lucky to have such great businesses and people to support us. PLEASE
remember to support them and make sponsorship worth their while.

Please
note: the prizes you receive may not necessarily be from the sponsors
listed in your category.

This is mostly due to 2 concerns:
1) Geographic location. Few homebrewers in California could use a
gift certificate to be redeemed at a wonderful brewery located in
Buffalo, NY. If you are to receive a gift certificate, we will do
our best to be sure you can use it in your area or on the internet.
2) Shipping constraints. We do not have unlimited resources for the
shipping of glass, beer and bags of malt. These items are too heavy
or too fragile and consequently, will be awarded to winning homebrewers
within our reach in the Central and Western New York State areas.

Not all prizes may be awarded. In the event the amount of prizes received
exceeds our immediate need, we will inventory any merchandise overage
for future awards.

You will receive a complete list of sponsors with your results and
we ask you to please make a conscious effort to patronize
them
if and when possible.

We will make every effort to assure the approximate retail value of
your prize(s) is proportionate to your level of achievement.

Prize
Process for UNYHA Members:

UNYHA Members
attending our April 9 membership meeting will be able to select their
own prizes. You will be issued a number of points, commensurate with
your total level of achievement, to use on selecting prizes. Prizes
will be organized in a fashion to allow you to determine the point
value for each. The competitor with the most points will select first,
working our way down to the members with the least points. This year,
in order to make this a more expeditious process, we will allow GROUPS
of members with identical points earned, to select SIMULTANEOUSLY.
We will still RANDOMLY determine who has priority in the event members
are trying to select the same prize. This prioritization number will
appear on you points certificate.

Ribbons:

Winning
competitors attending the Awards Banquet on March 8 at Rohrbach Brewing
Company will receive their ribbons that evening. The judge sheets
and prizes and certificates will be delivered at a later time.

Out-of-town
competitors not attending the banquet will receive their ribbons,
certificates and prizes along with their results. We will make every
effort to accomplish this in a timely fashion. Please bear in mind
the magnitude of this task and be patient. The Awards Committee’s
busiest time starts as soon as the judging is completed. Our goal
is to have results, ribbons and prizes in your hands by March 24 or
sooner.

This
year’s ribbons include a snazzy-looking center medallion commemorating
our 30th Annual Homebrew Competition. We’re SURE
you’re going to love it.

The
1st Place in category ribbon is a 4" blue, string-back
rosette, containing a custom button showing our classic UNYHA Bottle
Logo. There are three 9" streamers, 2 are blue and the center
is yellow and says FIRST PLACE. The competition name and date in blue
ink. The center, yellow streamer concept relates to a gold medal.
Additionally, blue is the traditional 1st place ribbon color and the
combination of Blue and Yellow is the predominant color theme in New
York State Government, making it a suitable award for a "New
York State Open Homebrew Competition".

The 2nd Place in category ribbon has the same physical
properties as described above. The rosette and two outside ribbons are
red. The center ribbon is gray, simulating silver. The printing on the
center ribbon is black.

The 3rd Place in category ribbon is tan on brown
to simulate a bronze level of achievement. Since the traditional 3rd
place ribbon color yellow was already used in the 1st place ribbon
combination, we chose not to include it in our 3rd place ribbon. The
printing on the center streamer is gold.

<

The First place Best of Show ribbon has 24-inch steamers
and a 6-inch rosette! Gold stripes, lettering and tassels further
accentuate the First Place achievement of the recipient. This thing
is BIG!!! It is actually a horse ribbon, but what homebrewer wouldn't
want to display such an audacious statement of their conquest?

The Second Place Best of Show ribbon has 18-inch
Red/White/Blue streamers and a 5-inch rosette. Silver lettering and
the gray petals in the rosette are intended to relate to the silver
medal traditionally associated with second place awards.

The Third Place Best of Show red, white and blue
ribbon has 12-inch streamers with a “Petals and Points”
rosette. The lettering is bronze in color. This ribbon would make
a fine addition to that proud brewer’s awards display.

Care
Instructions:

Though we make every reasonable effort to avoid damage in transit,
if your ribbon arrives ruffled in 'other' ways, they will
flatten out best when hung over night on an ordinary clothes hanger.
Stubborn wrinkles can be removed by ironing on the backside (not printed
side) with a dry iron. We recommend that you set your iron no higher
than "permanent press".
